“We also played in the past…” ‘Volleyball Empress’ wary of Generation Z

‘Volleyball Empress’ Kim Yeon-kyung (Heungkuk Life Insurance) was wary of juniors armed with various talents.

Although she is confident that she will not be outdone by volleyball, she sticks out her tongue, saying that she feels it is too much to follow the sensibility and trends of Generation Z.

The Korea Volleyball Federation (KOVO) held a pre-event at Samsan World Gymnasium in Incheon on the 28th, the day before the All-Star Game.

On this day, about 2,400 fans gathered and showed high interest, reminiscent of the main game.

The male and female players selected as All-Stars warmed up by playing simple mini-games, preliminaries for the Spike Serve King and Queen Contest, and raffle prizes with fans.

Kim Yeon-kyung, who received 82,297 votes and received the most votes among men and women, said, “It is a result that the fans voted for, so it has a special meaning. I have to show it, but there are a lot of young players, so I’m learning a lot of popular things. I try to make the team fun. Please look forward to it.” 스포츠토토

Choi Hyo-seo (KGC Ginseng Corporation), born in 2004, the only new player selected as an All-Star, said, “It’s amazing and I’m very nervous because I was selected alone.”

Kim Yeon-kyung will play in the All-Star Game for the first time in 16 years since the 2006-07 season. In the 2020-21 season, she ranked first in the vote, but her meeting with her fans was not possible as the All-Star Game was not held in the aftermath of the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19).

Kim Yeon-kyung said, “It seems that a lot has changed. A lot of people are interested in it, and the crowd is going to be full tomorrow, so it feels different.”

In this All-Star Game, reflecting the trend of the MZ generation, the men’s division was divided into M-stars for players born before 1995 and Z-stars for players born after. Starting from 1996, the women’s division was included in the M-Star before and the Z-Star after that.

Choi Hyo-seo, who belongs to Z-Star, expressed her strong aspirations toward M-Star, saying, “I don’t think I can win with volleyball. I’ll try to win by playing instead.”

In response, Kim Yeon-kyung said, “We are afraid of that too. We think we will be good at volleyball, but we should study the sensibility and fashion of Generation Z when playing.” responded

Kim Yeon-kyung also showed wit that she would not be pushed by Generation Z by using her past memories.

He said, “I heard that Generation Z prepared a lot. I’m worried,” he said.

Still, he said, “It’s okay because we’ve played together in the past. But Generation Z prepared HOT’s candy, so we’re losing a lot of things to do.”
