Pep Guardiola received a text from Alex Ferguson on the morning of the game.
Manchester City defeated Inter Milan 1-0 in the 2022-23 UEFA Champions League (UCL) final at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey, at 4 a.m. ET on Nov. 11. It was City’s first UCL title in club history.
There was a lot at stake for City. For starters, they were on the verge of a season-long treble. Having already won the English Premier League (EPL) and the English FA Cup, City could complete the treble if they beat Inter Milan. It’s an honor only seven teams in Europe have ever achieved. Among EPL clubs, Manchester United was the only one.
The final gateway to this was UCL, a competition that City had never won in its history. They reached the final in the 2020-21 season, but lost to Chelsea and finished as runners-up. Last season, they finished in the quarterfinals. To win the treble, they had to conquer the UCL, which they had never won.
But there was a twist in the first half. City attacked Inter Milan with Elling Holland, Kevin De Bruyne, and Bernardo Silva early in the first half, but couldn’t find the back of the net, and then suffered a setback when De Bruyne was injured in the 27th minute.
Luckily, they were able to erase their mid-half jitters. In the 23rd minute, Rodri pounced on a loose ball after Silva’s cutback and slotted home. Inter Milan then began to fight back. However, City were able to hold on to their one-goal lead and hold on for the win.
In doing so, City became the second EPL club to win the treble since Manchester United in 1998-99, and the ninth in Europe. The previous clubs to win the treble were Celtic (1966-67), Ajax (1971-72), PSV Eindhoven (1987-88), Manchester United (1998-99), Barcelona (2008-09, 2014-15), Inter Milan (2009-10), and Bayern Munich (2012-13, 2019-20).먹튀검증
Guardiola drew laughter after the game for his over-the-top (?) celebration of the win, telling Britain’s BT Sport: “I’m tired. But I’m comfortable, I’m satisfied, this trophy is so f*g difficult to win,” he told BT Sport.
He also revealed that he had received a message of support from someone special before the game. “It’s a great honor to rub shoulders with Sir Alex Ferguson,” Guardiola said. I received a text message from him this morning. I was really touched. I felt very good,” he said.
