Reporter Lee Eui-jin = “Last season, there were many difficult parts because there was no internal communication with the players. This season, I think that communication is to visit directly instead of waiting with the door open.”
Nam Gi-il, head coach of Jeju United in the professional soccer K League 1, announced that he would completely change his communication method ahead of the new season.
At the ‘2023 K-League Winter Battery Training Media Camp’ held at the Barev Hotel in Seogwipo, Jeju on the morning of the 7th, coach Nam looked back, saying, “It was regrettable that I couldn’t talk much,” referring to Bitgaram Yun, who left for Suwon FC.
Director Han Nam admitted, “I feel sorry for Yun Bit-garam, who was not moderated due to disagreement with himself,” and “there was a communication problem that I do not want to repeat again.”
In a later afternoon interview at the same place, Yoon Bit-garam said, “It’s not that there hasn’t been a lot of communication, but I think it happened once or twice. Because of that, I went to the second group.”
Yoon Bit-garam said, “Last year was difficult and I was hurt a lot. It was the first time in my professional career,” he said.
It wasn’t just Yun Bit-garam who left that he had a critical mind over the way the team communicated.
Choi Young-jun, who recently took the captaincy of Jeju, said, “Last year, there were many changes, and there were many accidents, big and small, so everyone was reluctant to take on the captaincy and vice-captain positions. It seems that (the captains) had a hard time in the middle.”
In fact, in the middle of last season, Jeju put forward internal solidarity as the justification and renewed its captaincy.
In August of last year, Kim Oh-gyu gave the captain’s armband to Jeong-woon, and vice-captain Choi Young-jun and Yoon Bit-garam were also replaced by Ahn Hyun-beom.
Choi Young-joon said, “I don’t think I can claim last year. The atmosphere was dark.”
“The players will also change according to the coach, so the coach once told me to change,” he said. “I feel the change during winter training. ‘Why are you like this?’ There are some players who think they do,” he said.
“The coach also asks me if I’m communicating well. I replied that I’m doing well,” he added.
One of Nam’s ‘renewal’ self-rescue measures is Jeju’s new captain system.
Instead of selecting a vice-captain, coach Nam formed a team of six captains, led by captain Choi Yeong-jun, Koo Ja-cheol, Jeong-woon, Kim O-gyu, Ahn Hyun-beom, and Kim Dong-jun, to help the team communicate. 스포츠토토
He explained, “All of them are senior players, so they help us communicate.”
Choi Young-joon praised this system, saying, “If you look at it to the extreme, it’s like setting up an arbitration body within the team.”
He continued, “Actually, I’m the captain, but Koo Ja-cheol talks too much in the captain’s team. Even if he gives me advice, he gives me too much advice every day.”
Koo Ja-cheol explained, “This team is also a communication channel. It becomes a justification when the director wants to communicate.”
He continued, “While preparing for the new season, there were many cases where the coach approached me first. If I talk a lot, trust will inevitably be built up.”
